1. Private school teachers entitled to gratuity, says Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has ruled that private schools will now have to pay gratuity to teachers who retired after 1997. Upholding a 2009 law entitling the private school teachers for gratuity, retrospectively from 1997, the SC invalidated a stay on its operation.

 

2. Chhattisgarh CM sanctions Rs 500 crore for repair & maintenance of school buildings.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has approved a budget of Rs 500 crore for the repair and maintenance of school buildings. The chief secretary has been given instructions to carry out the implementation of the same.

 

3. CUET scores not applicable for admission into Delhi University's certificate courses.

CUET scores will not be applicable to take admission in the certificate courses offered at Delhi University’s Campus of Open Learning (COL). COL-DU has been offering various professional and technical training programmes and short term certificate courses from nearly two decades now.

 

4. LG seeks explanation for decline in enrolment & rise in absenteeism in Delhi govt schools.

On Monday, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor's office wrote to the Chief Secretary asking for an explanation for the "decline in enrolment and rise in absenteeism" in government schools since 2014-15 despite an increase in the expenditure towards education.

 

5. Jharkhand Teachers tied to a tree by students & beaten over allotting poor marks.

In an incident in Jharkhand’s Dumka district, a group of school students tied their teachers to a tree and allegedly beat them up for allotting them low scores which led to the students failing their exams.
