1. HECI to be the single education regulator for IITs, IIMs, NITs, and other INIs.
The Central Government is planning to bring the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), the National Institute of Technology (NIT), the Indian Institute of Scientific Education and Research (IISER), and other Institutes of National Importance (INIs) under Higher Education Commission of India, HECI. The National Education Policy, NEP 2020 had proposed the idea of a single higher education regulator, HECI.
2. KIIT and ICPE Launch Mega Plastic Collection Drive to Combat Pollution.
Plastic pollution is a
pressing global issue that demands our urgent attention. At KIIT we firmly
believe that creating a plastic-free world is not a choice, but a commitment to
the life and well-being of the next generation. In collaboration with the
Indian Centre for Plastics in the Environment (ICPE), we launched Mega Plastic
Collection Drive. Students, teachers, and community members joined hands to
collect plastic waste from their homes/ nearby areas. The collected waste will be
handed over to ICPE's recycling partners for safe disposal.

CM announces scheme to cover educational expenses for 'Ladli Lakshmis' .
Madhya
Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the state
government will pay the fees of 'Ladli Lakshmis' or girls on their admission to
prestigious education institutions. This move was announced during a
state-level Ladli Lakshmi Utsav organised on Tuesday, 3rd May, 2023. In
addition to paying the fees for admission to prestigious institutions, a
special campaign for Ladli Lakshmi will be launched from May 9 to May 15 in the
cities and panchayats of the state.
4. Assam govt launches e-textbooks in 8 mediums, 19 languages.
Assam government has launched e-textbooks from pre-primary to Class 12 on May 13, 2023, in a bid to make education accessible and readily available to students in the state. The e-textbooks are released in 8 mediums and 19 languages, making it easier for students, teachers, and guardians to access the textbooks anytime and anywhere. Here are the key highlights of the programme. The government has made 475 titles of textbooks available in downloadable formats in the portals of SCERT, SEBA, and AHSEC.
5. Delhi Arts Curriculum will boost artistic outcomes in state schools.
Delhi government recently introduced the Delhi Arts Curriculum report which will be introduced in Delhi schools. Till now it was taught only in nine Sarvodaya Vidyalayas as part of the pilot project that covered 3,900 students. Delhi Education minister Atishi launched the innovative arts curriculum for all the students. The curriculum has been developed by an NGO, NalandaWay Foundation which is headquartered in Chennai and was also included in the curriculum reforms committee that was set up by the Delhi government in 2021.
6. Kerala Govt bans classes during summer vacation, warns schools of strict action.
The Kerala Government directed educational officers to check the complaints being filed against schools violating the state’s order to stop classes during summer vacation. “All government, aided and unaided schools at the primary, secondary, higher secondary, vocational higher secondary levels should not conduct any classes during the summer vacations,” a circular dated April 28, 2017 read. “Yet, we have received many complaints claiming that schools are violating this circular released by the general education department,” the state government noted.
