1. Ravenshaw University cancels Film Fest few minutes before inauguration.

Ravenshaw University in Cuttack on Thursday cancelled a film festival organized by the university's Film Society moments before its scheduled inauguration over "threat call" against screening of two movies. After a day-long protest by a student group who favoured the fest, the university authorities said the event will start on Friday with a rider that two films- Had Anhad and Gay India Matrimony- will not be screened.


2. Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering to host two-day AI & industry conclave.

The Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE), Moodbidri will host a two day international conclave on 'Artificial Intelligence and Industry 4.0 – Application in Business Management' from March 3. Eminent industry resource persons from Australia, Singapore, USA as well as from reputed corporate entities from India, are participating and presenting their scholarly papers in the conclave. Madhusudan Singh, head-Artificial Intelligence at L&T Technologies Bengaluru will inaugurate.


3. India, Australia sign deal to recognise qualifications.

The agreement was signed following a bilateral meeting between Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and his Australian counterpart Jason Clare, who is on an official tour to India till March 5. The agreement is part of the commitment made at the second India-Australia virtual summit held on March 21, 2022, wherein the Prime Ministers of both countries agreed to establish a joint task force for mutual recognition of qualifications.


4. 'Give up English-language oriented education system'.

Insisting that it is the right of every individual to get educated in his/her language, renowned educationist Chamu Krishna Shastry said that there should not be a single stream in which textbooks, reference books and study material should not be available in Indian languages. Drawing the attention of students and teachers on the importance of languages and how culture and languages are inseparable, the Padma Shri awardee said that it is high time that the country moves towards Indian languages centered education system from English-centered system.


5. UGC Invites Application For Recognition Of ODL, Online Courses.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited applications from higher education institutions (HEIs) for recognition to offer programmes under the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode and/or online mode from the academic year 2023-24. The HEIs may submit their applications online at deb.ugc.ac.in. The application must be submitted between March 15 and 31. As per the official notice, the duly certified hard copy of the online application form along with the original affidavit and annexure should reach the Joint Secretary’s office by April 15.


6. JNU to Impose Rs 20,000 Fine for Dharna, Admission Cancellation for Violence.

Students can be imposed a penalty of Rs 20,000 for holding dharnas and face admission cancellation or a fine of up to Rs 30,000 for resorting to violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University, its latest rules stipulate. The 10-page ‘Rules of Discipline and proper conduct of students of JNU’ has laid out punishments for different kinds of acts like protests and forgery, and procedures for proctorial enquiry and recording a statement. According to the document, the rules came into effect on February 3.
