Universities
and higher education institutions across the country will now be allowed to
create up to 25 percent supernumerary seats for foreign students in their
undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programmes, as said by UGC Chairman
Jagadesh Kumar.

While delivering a speech on Saturday, Chief
Justice N V Ramana said that institutions of higher learning were losing their
social relevance as 'factories of education' mushroomed and stressed the need
for developing an education model that teaches students how to cope with
real-life challenges.
3. Madras HC orders action against schools running
without recognition.
The
Madras High Court has directed the concerned authorities to take action against
the schools which are being run without recognition in the Salem district of
Tamil Nadu. The directions were given by Justice Abdul Quddhose, while entertaining
a petition from a school in Salem.

Appoints Former UGC Chairman As Education Advisor.
The Uttar
Pradesh government has appointed former University Grants Commission (UGC)
Chairman Dhirendra Pal Singh as its advisor on education, as reported by a
spokesperson.

Establish Centre To Study 1947 Partition.
The Jawaharlal
Nehru University (JNU) is planning to set up a center to study the 1947
partition in depth to fill the historical gaps, said Vice-Chancellor Santishree
Pandit on Sunday.

CBSE compartment exam to be held from August 23.
The
Central Board of Secondary Education will conduct the compartment examination
from August 23. Candidates can download the admit card from the official
website at cbse.gov.in.

Internet services suspended in Assam’s 25 districts during govt exam hours.
Mobile
internet services across 25 districts of Assam were suspended for four hours on
Sunday in order to prevent possible malpractices during written examination for
Grade-IV posts of various state government departments.
8. DU to launch its UG admission process soon.
Delhi
University (DU) will soon announce its admissions process for undergraduate
courses for the new academic session, and candidates should ensure their
documents and certificates are ready by August 31.
