UGC, CTET, MH SET and Bihar Faculty Recruitment: Latest Education Updates

Several important developments have emerged across India’s education sector, covering disability inclusion in higher education, teacher eligibility examinations and faculty recruitment. The latest updates from the University Grants Commission (UGC), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and the Bihar government are likely to affect students, teaching aspirants and higher education institutions.

UGC Issues Directions on PwD Inclusion

The UGC has directed universities and higher education institutions to ensure compliance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016. The move aims to improve accessibility and participation of students and employees with disabilities across higher education institutions.

Universities have been asked to follow reservation provisions under Section 32 of the Act and maintain annual records of students with disabilities admitted to different courses. Institutions must also prepare accessibility action plans and work towards creating barrier-free campuses in line with the prescribed guidelines.

The commission has also asked institutions to establish internal committees involving teachers, staff, students and parents to address the needs of students with disabilities. Equal Opportunity Cells are also expected to function effectively.

The required information must be submitted through the Universities Activity Monitoring Portal (UAMP) by September 30th, 2026. The data will cover:

  • Students with disabilities admitted to courses

  • Recruitment of teaching staff

  • Recruitment of non-teaching staff

  • Fellowships and scholarships provided to students with disabilities

CTET 2026 Examination Dates Announced

The CBSE has announced the schedule for the 22nd edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). The examination will be held on December 12th and 13th, 2026, in offline mode. Candidates will receive details of their examination city and date 15 days before the test, while admit cards will be available two days before the examination. Each CTET paper will have 150 questions carrying 150 marks, with a duration of two hours and 30 minutes. Paper 1 is meant for candidates seeking eligibility to teach Classes 1 to 5, while Paper 2 is for those intending to teach Classes 6 to 8. Candidates need to secure at least 90 marks to qualify.

MH SET 2026 Postponed Again

SPPU has postponed the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (MH SET) 2026 for the third time. The examination will now be conducted on October 25th, 2026. It was earlier scheduled for July 6, then shifted to September 6th and September 27th. SPPU cited the schedules of the UPSC and other competitive examinations, along with possible travel difficulties for candidates around Anant Chaturdashi, as reasons for the latest postponement. The university has not yet announced the admit card release date and has advised candidates to follow official updates.

Bihar Reviews Faculty Recruitment System

Bihar has constituted a high-level committee to examine the existing assistant professor recruitment system in state universities and recommend comprehensive reforms. The committee was formed after PhD holders and researchers raised concerns over the current recruitment process during a prolonged protest in Patna.

The panel will examine the age limit, eligibility requirements, examination and interview formats, selection criteria and the weightage given to different parameters. It will also consider issues relating to guest lecturers.

Among the demands raised by researchers was an increase in the upper age limit for assistant professor appointments to 55 years, along with the introduction of objective-type written examinations.

Important Updates for Candidates and Institutions

For students, teachers and academic aspirants, these developments bring several immediate points to note. EducationNewsNetwork will continue to follow updates related to PwD inclusion, eligibility examinations and recruitment processes as authorities announce further decisions. The latest developments underline the continuing changes in examination schedules, institutional compliance and recruitment procedures across the education sector. Candidates and institutions are advised to rely on official notifications for deadlines, examination dates and further instructions.
