The Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) have announced Project Veer Gatha 6.0 for the 2026-27 academic year. The nationwide initiative invites school students to explore the stories of India’s gallantry award winners and historical warriors through creative projects. The competition aims to encourage patriotism, recognise acts of courage and help students understand the values of sacrifice and civic responsibility. Open to students from Classes 3 to 12, the competition allows participants to express their ideas through poems, essays, paintings, drawings, multimedia presentations and short videos. Schools must evaluate entries and upload their shortlisted submissions to the MyGov portal between 9th and 19th October 2026.
Project Veer Gatha 6.0: Categories and Activities
The competition has different submission formats and word limits for students at different stages of schooling.
Classes 3 to 5: Poems, paragraphs of up to 150 words, paintings and drawings
Classes 6 to 8: Poems, paragraphs of up to 300 words, paintings, drawings, multimedia presentations and short videos
Classes 9 to 12: Poems, essays of up to 750 words, paintings, drawings, multimedia presentations and short videos
Suggested themes include the life and achievements of gallantry award recipients, lessons students can learn from their courage, and the military strategies of Indian warriors. Students may also explore historical figures such as Shivaji and warriors associated with the Revolt of 1857.
Submission Process and Important Dates
Participation is organised through schools. After conducting the activities and evaluating students’ work, each school must upload its best entries to the designated MyGov portal. The standard submission allocation is four entries per school across the prescribed categories, subject to the provisions for schools that do not offer all class levels.
The next stages of evaluation are scheduled as follows:
School submissions: 9th to 19th October 2026
District-level evaluation: 21st October to 14th November 2026
State or Union Territory evaluation: 16th November to 4th December 2026
National-level evaluation: 8th to 28th December 2026
Schools are advised to submit selected entries as soon as their internal evaluation is complete rather than wait until the final day.
100 National Winners to Receive ₹10,000 Each
A total of 100 students will be selected as national-level winners under the Super 100 category. Each winner will receive a cash prize of ₹10,000 from the Ministry of Defence and a certificate jointly awarded by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education.
The selection will include 25 winners from Classes 3 to 5, 25 from Classes 6 to 8 and 50 from Classes 9 to 12, divided equally between Classes 9-10 and Classes 11-12. District and state-level winners will also receive recognition from their respective authorities.
Project Veer Gatha was launched in 2021 and has recorded growing participation over successive editions. The fifth edition reportedly reached 1.92 crore students, demonstrating the initiative’s expanding reach across schools in India.
For students, the competition offers a way to learn about national history through original work rather than textbook study alone. EducationNewsNetwork highlights the key dates and participation requirements to help schools and families follow the initiative. TopEducationNews also brings attention to opportunities that encourage students to explore creativity, courage, and the stories of people who have contributed to the country.
Students and schools should consult the official Project Veer Gatha 6.0 portal for detailed guidelines, submission requirements, and updates.
