Major Education Updates: IP University PhD Admissions, NEET PG Counselling and SSC November Exam Schedule

Several important developments in the education sector have emerged, bringing new opportunities and important announcements for students, researchers, and competitive examination aspirants. From the opening of PhD admissions at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University to the extension of Karnataka NEET PG counselling deadlines, these updates are relevant to candidates preparing for higher education and professional examinations. Meanwhile, the Staff Selection Commission has announced its November examination schedule, while Himachal Pradesh is planning an international academic exchange programme to strengthen medical education.

Here is a closer look at the four major developments and what candidates and students need to know.

1. IP University Opens PhD Admissions for Winter Session 2026–27

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi, has opened online applications for its PhD programmes for the winter session of the 2026 - 27 academic year. The application process commenced on 2 November 2026, providing aspiring researchers with an opportunity to pursue doctoral studies across multiple academic disciplines.

The university is offering research opportunities in areas such as engineering, management, law, sciences, humanities and technology. Eligible candidates can submit their applications online until 25 November 2026, at 5:30 pm.

Applicants are advised to review the eligibility requirements and programme-specific admission guidelines before completing the registration process. The university will also conduct a PhD Entrance Test (PET), although the examination schedule is yet to be announced.

Additionally, research fellowships will be available for eligible full-time scholars, offering further support to candidates pursuing academic research.

Important details for applicants:

  • University: Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University

  • Admission session: Winter 2026 - 27

  • Application commencement: 2 November 2026

  • Last date to apply: 25 November 2026

2. KEA Extends Karnataka NEET PG 2026 Option Entry Deadline

In another important development for medical aspirants, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has extended the option-entry deadline for Karnataka NEET PG 2026 counselling. The extension gives eligible candidates additional time to select their preferred postgraduate medical courses and colleges.

The revised deadline allows candidates to complete their option entry by 3 November 2026, until 12 noon. The earlier deadline was 2 November 2026.

Alongside the extension, KEA has issued a fee-related advisory, asking applicants to carefully verify the revised fee structure before finalising their college preferences. Candidates participating in the counselling process should consider course availability, college fees, and their preferred specialisations before submitting their choices.

Option entry is an important stage of the admission process, as the preferences submitted by candidates play a significant role in determining seat allotment.

Candidates should ensure that their choices are finalised within the revised deadline and check the official KEA website for the latest counselling instructions.

3. SSC Announces November 2026 Examination Schedule

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced its examination schedule for November 2026, bringing clarity for candidates preparing for various recruitment-related examinations.

The schedule includes three major examinations, covering departmental assessments, skill tests, and the Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces Sub-Inspector recruitment examination.

According to the announcement, the Coast Guard Enrolled Persons Test (CGEPT) for Batches 01/2027 and 02/2027 will be conducted on 17 and 18 November 2026.

The Annual Departmental Typing Test and Stenographer Skill Test for 2025 are scheduled for 20 and 21 November 2026. Meanwhile, Paper-II of the Sub Inspector examination for Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), 2025, will take place on 28 November 2026.

Candidates should review the examination dates and make the necessary preparations. They are also advised to check the official SSC website regularly for updates concerning admit cards, examination arrangements, and other important instructions.

4. Himachal Pradesh Plans Medical Education Exchange with US University

Himachal Pradesh is taking steps towards strengthening medical education through an international academic exchange programme with the University of Illinois in the United States.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the proposed initiative following a meeting with a university delegation led by Dr Manuraj Sood in Shimla on 2 November 2026.

Under the proposed programme, medical students from Himachal Pradesh will have opportunities to gain international exposure to advanced medical technologies, teaching methodologies and research practices. Faculty members are also expected to benefit from specialised training and academic exchange opportunities.

The initiative aims to encourage collaboration between institutions through joint research projects, knowledge sharing and the exchange of academic resources. The state also plans to implement its existing agreement with the university to support the collaboration.

The programme is expected to contribute towards modernising medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh while encouraging innovation and improving the overall quality of medical education.
