The fifth edition of Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS 5.0), a cultural and educational exchange programme celebrating the historic ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi, will be held from 28th November to 12th December 2026. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi launched the registration portal on 22nd October, inviting participants from different backgrounds to take part in the programme. The initiative aims to strengthen the cultural and civilisational connections between the two regions, which have long been recognised as important centres of learning, spirituality and intellectual traditions. The programme is organised under the Ministry of Education, with the involvement of institutions including the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT), Chennai.
Thirukkural to Be the Central Theme of KTS 5.0
This year's edition will focus on the classical Tamil text Thirukkural, written by the poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar. The theme, “Thirukkural Payilvom - Thirukkural Abhyas Karen”, translates to “Let's Learn Thirukkural” and seeks to introduce its ethical and moral teachings to young people across India.
The text contains 1,330 couplets addressing virtue, wealth, and love. Through educational activities and cultural interactions, the programme intends to make these teachings accessible to students from different linguistic and academic backgrounds.
According to the programme information, the fifth edition will place particular emphasis on student engagement, structured learning and the dissemination of the text's values across educational institutions.

In addition to the college-level activities, educational outreach programmes will introduce students in Varanasi to the text through orientation sessions, interactive activities and quizzes.
