K-IIT World School, Gurugram, hosted a CBSE consultative meeting on Physical Chemistry for Class XII, bringing together educators to discuss ways to make complex chemistry topics more engaging and accessible to students. The session focused on Units 1, 2 and 3, covering Solutions, Electrochemistry and Chemical Kinetics, with an emphasis on practical examples, real-life applications and simple classroom activities. The meeting encouraged teachers to share suggestions and teaching strategies that could help students develop a better understanding of scientific concepts. Discussions centred on making learning meaningful and interactive, rather than focusing solely on examination preparation.
CBSE Representative Attends as Guest of Honour
Ms Thushara K., Assistant Professor, Joint Director and Head of the Centre of Excellence, Gurugram, at the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), attended the meeting as the Guest of Honour. She was welcomed by Dr Neelima Kamrah, Principal of K-IIT World School.
Her guidance and encouragement were appreciated by the participants throughout the session. The meeting provided an opportunity for teachers to exchange ideas and reflect on approaches that could improve the teaching and learning of Physical Chemistry at the senior secondary level.
The resource persons were Dr Neelima Kamrah, Principal of K-IIT World School, CBSE City Coordinator and District Training Head, and Dr Pratibha Kohli, former Principal of Maharaja Agrasen Model School, Pitampura, Delhi. Both brought their experience in academic leadership and teacher development to the discussions.
Teachers Explore Practical Approaches to Chemistry
Participating teachers contributed actively, sharing feedback on how abstract chemistry concepts could be connected with familiar situations. The discussions highlighted the importance of helping students understand the relevance of scientific principles through examples drawn from everyday life.
The key areas explored during the meeting included:
Solutions: Using familiar examples to explain the properties and behaviour of solutions
Electrochemistry: Connecting theoretical concepts with batteries and their everyday applications
Chemical Kinetics: Using simple activities to explain reaction rates and the factors influencing them
Classroom engagement: Encouraging practical demonstrations and real-life connections to make lessons easier to understand
These approaches can help students relate theoretical knowledge to observable experiences. Simple activities and familiar examples may also encourage curiosity, participation and discussion in the classroom.
The meeting emphasised the importance of giving teachers opportunities to exchange ideas and identify teaching methods suited to their students' learning needs. Such discussions can help educators present challenging topics in clearer, more engaging ways.
Focus on Meaningful Classroom Learning
The CBSE consultative meeting reflected the importance of collaborative academic discussions in strengthening science education. By inviting teachers to contribute their suggestions, the session created space for educators to consider practical improvements to classroom teaching.
The emphasis on real-life applications also highlighted the value of helping students understand why scientific concepts matter beyond textbooks and examinations. For subjects such as Physical Chemistry, connecting abstract principles with familiar examples can make lessons more relatable and encourage deeper understanding.
