Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Experience Centre at the Board’s Integrated Complex in Dwarka, New Delhi, on 27th October 2026. The centre has been established to give students an opportunity to explore educational concepts, scientific developments and career options through interactive experiences beyond conventional classroom teaching. The facility aims to make school education more practical and engaging by encouraging students to understand concepts through observation, experimentation and participation. It also showcases the evolution of education in India, from traditional learning systems to modern schools and digital classrooms.

Joshi Emphasises Learning Beyond Textbooks

Speaking at the inauguration, Joshi highlighted the need to move away from rote learning and an excessive focus on examination scores. He said education should recognise students’ individual interests, abilities and learning capacities rather than measure their progress solely through marks.

The Minister stressed that students should have opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-life situations. According to him, encouraging curiosity, creativity and confidence is essential to preparing young people for future challenges.

The centre reflects the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes experiential and holistic learning. The approach encourages students to develop independent thinking, understand concepts more deeply and gain confidence through practical experiences.

Joshi also highlighted the importance of preparing students for changing requirements in technology, manufacturing and innovation. He referred to the recently launched Seva First Innovation Challenge, noting that opportunities for experimentation and problem-solving could help develop future innovators.

Centre Features 12 Zones and 21 Exhibits

Spread across 6,000 square feet, the CBSE Experience Centre houses 12 zones and 21 exhibits. Visitors can use RFID-enabled smart cards to interact with displays, participate in activities, and access personalised takeaways and game-based leaderboards.

The centre takes visitors through different stages in the development of education and introduces them to scientific concepts, historical developments and emerging career opportunities.

Some of its key attractions include:

  • Shiksha Ki Kahani: An introductory film traces the evolution of education in India, from the gurukul system and historic learning centres such as Nalanda to contemporary schools and digital classrooms

  • CBSE's historical collection: Photographs and archival materials, including records dating back to 1935, showcase the Board's history and its role in school education

  • Geological timeline: A visual and interactive exhibit introduces visitors to the history of Earth across millions of years

  • Career Explorer: Interactive displays help students investigate different professions and understand how employment opportunities may change

  • Holographic interactions: Visitors can engage with holographic representations of eminent personalities, including Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

These exhibits combine historical information, scientific exploration, and interactive activities to create a learning experience that extends beyond traditional textbooks.

Career Exploration and Examination Awareness

Career guidance is another important feature of the centre. Exhibits such as ‘Future of Professions’ and ‘Magic Mirror: Future You’ encourage students to consider different career possibilities and explore how professional roles may evolve in the coming years.

The centre also includes a dedicated kiosk on ‘Exam Warriors’, the book by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It focuses on developing a positive approach towards examinations, managing stress and building confidence.

Another attraction, ‘Eduverse’, uses motion-based interaction and multisensory elements to take visitors through different natural environments. The experience includes forests, oceans, the Himalayas, the Moon and other planets. It concludes by highlighting the interconnectedness of natural systems and the role individuals play in protecting the planet.

Government Plans 50,000 Additional Atal Tinkering Labs

During the inauguration, Joshi highlighted the role of Atal Tinkering Labs in encouraging innovation and scientific thinking among students. He stated that 10,000 such labs were already operational across the country, with the government planning to establish another 50,000.

These laboratories are intended to provide opportunities for students to explore scientific ideas and develop practical problem-solving abilities. The expansion is part of the broader emphasis on helping learners move from studying concepts theoretically to understanding how they work in practice.

The CBSE Experience Centre brings together educational history, interactive technology, scientific exploration and career guidance under one roof. Its emphasis on practical engagement reflects the growing importance of learning approaches that encourage students to ask questions, experiment and think independently.

The initiative aims to make school education more engaging and student-centred while helping young people develop the curiosity, creativity and confidence needed to contribute to India's development.c
