Bal Bharati Public School Hosts 17th All-India Sports Meet 2026

Bal Bharati Public School (BBPS), GRH Marg, hosted the 17th All-India Sports Meet from 8th to 10th October 2026, bringing together around 1,100 students from 24 Bal Bharati Public School units across the country. Organised annually by the Sports Council of the Child Education Society (CES), the event gave young athletes an opportunity to showcase their sporting abilities, develop teamwork and build the values of discipline, perseverance and fair play. The three-day competition featured seven sports disciplines: table tennis, badminton, basketball, volleyball, tennis, chess and athletics. Experienced coaches and officials supervised the competitions to support fair play and smooth conduct across the events.

Inaugural Ceremony Celebrates Sporting Spirit

The inaugural ceremony took place on 8th October at the school’s Pusa Road campus. Former Olympian hockey player and Arjuna Award recipient Ashok Dhyanchand attended as the Guest of Honour, while Dr Piyush Jain, General Secretary of the Physical Education Foundation of India, was the Guest of Distinction.

The ceremony was attended by CES President and Sports Council Chairman Nikhil Channa, other society representatives, school principals, management members, parents, alumni and members of the Parent-Teacher Association.

In his welcome address, Principal Deepak Dua reiterated the school’s commitment to holistic education and its philosophy of ‘One Child, One Activity’. He highlighted how participation in sports helps children develop resilience, confidence, discipline and teamwork.

Addressing the young athletes, Dhyanchand encouraged them to set goals and work towards them through commitment and hard work. Channa also emphasised the importance of creating opportunities for students to participate, learn from one another and pursue sporting excellence.

The opening ceremony featured the athlete’s oath, lighting of the sports torch, unfurling of the sports flag and the unveiling of AGNIX, the official mascot. The theme song, Khelenge Khelenge, reinforced the messages of hope and perseverance.

Cultural performances added to the celebrations, including a welcome song, a march past by 24 school contingents, a Ganpati dance, a yoga presentation accompanied by Vedic mantras and a grand finale themed around rising and conquering challenges.

Closing Ceremony Recognises Young Achievers

The closing ceremony was held on 10th October at the school’s GRH Marg campus. Nitin Jindal, Additional Director of the Sports Branch, Directorate of Education, attended as the Chief Guest. Jitender Kinha, a two-time Commonwealth wrestling champion and Asian champion, was the Guest of Honour, while Amit Khanna, Assistant Commissioner of Customs and GST and a national-level athlete, attended as a Special Guest.

Other guests included nationally acclaimed sportsperson Deepesh Indrapal Solanki and Shako Bentinidis, an international wrestling coach and three-time Olympian.

Principal Deepak Dua highlighted the importance of learning beyond the classroom, noting that sports provide valuable opportunities for young people to demonstrate courage, effort and determination. The ceremony also included the handover of the Sports Council flag to Asha Prabhakar, Convenor of the Sports Council, symbolising continuity in the sporting activities of the Bal Bharati fraternity.

Prabhakar thanked the host school for its planning and arrangements. She also stressed the importance of identifying emerging talent and expanding opportunities for students to compete at higher levels before formally declaring the meet closed on behalf of the chairman.

The programme included a three-part prize distribution ceremony, a victory song, a Punjabi fusion dance by pre-primary students, a western dance performance by senior students and a farewell song by the school choir. The event concluded with the National Anthem.

The participation of 24 school units also demonstrated the value of providing young people with opportunities to explore their abilities outside regular academic routines.
